Hi Violet

If you go to the board index click on finance there is a whole section on banks post offices and peoples experiences there, hopefully you will find what you are looking for,

Hi Yorkylad2008,
For future reference use "Google translate" for translations. It's not perfect but gives you the gist of any text that you need for translating.

Also consider buying a computer translator - I bought 'Idiomax' and it is good. I was even complimented on the quality of my Italian!

http://www.idiomax.com/translation-software-suite.aspx
http://www.idiomax.com/office-translator.aspx

This looks like the newer version Vista and Office2010 etc..... I have had mine for a while and was about £80 via download. (Idiomax Translation Suite v5.0).

It's not cheap, but is very good (having been complimented on my Italian - and I really can't speak a word!!). It also helps you to learn how to phrase things - my test is to translate Eng-Italian; then translate it back! It helps you make straightforward sentences which are not misleading due to our coloquialisms...... Got it? (I mean: do you understand what I have said?)

Once you get tuned into it, it is really quite good. It also integrates with Internet Explorer, but some of its translations there are really really funny; try Enel's website for a start as there are parts where I just have not got a clue what they really mean!!!

<<Incidentally, I don't use my credit card for 'unknown' web purchases. I use my pre-pay Mastercard...... better safe than sorry>>

I plan to open an Italian Bank account my next trip over Sept/10.
The World's 50 Safest Banks 2009(Global Finance); Italy had 1; Intesa Sanpaolo ranked #32 in the world. You may want to check into this
one.
